The Fallen Stars Memorial Project was developed for the purpose of honoring the men and women from New York State who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has two features. The first is a memorial mural consisting of an 8x4 main section and two 4x3 wings. Depicted in chronological order are the faces, names, hometowns, ranks and branches of service of our, to date, 324 Fallen Stars. The second feature is highlighted by several hundred projects (at least one for every Fallen Star) insuring that each hero is remembered in a special way designed to improve the quality of life of area communities. Among said projects are the following: Marine Sgt. Shawn Martin Annual Memorial Golf Tournament conducted by the Frankfort Kiwanis Club; Army Sgt. Michael Uvanni Annual Bike Rodeo (Sommer brothers); Army Cpl. Michael Mayne Cookie Corps.
